Terms and Conditions

  1. GENERAL 

1.1 The “DesignWanted Award” (DWA) is organized by DesignWanted Srl, which owns the brand “DesignWanted”. The following terms and conditions shall constitute the sole contractual terms governing participation in the competition for the DWA (call for submissions) as agreed between DesignWanted and the participant. All the activities related to the communication of the Award will be uploaded and visible on award.designwanted.com. 

1.2 By completing and submitting the online entry form available at award.designwanted.com and paying the entry fees, the applicant will fully and unreservedly agree to all of the terms and conditions of DesignWanted Award. If you do not agree with any of the terms or conditions, then you should not take part in DesignWanted Award. Once you have created an account, we reserve the right to send you further correspondence regarding our award programme. You can unsubscribe by clicking on “unsubscribe” at the bottom of any of our emails.

  1. CATEGORIES

2.1 The DesignWanted Award is not organized into categories, but into a single macro category (or theme) defined as ‘smart home’.

2.2 There are two types of DesignWanted Award entries: Product Design and Concept Design.

2.3  The DesignAward Award accepts entries from a wide range of categories: Household furniture; Household appliances; Homewares and accessories; Home office accessories; Bathroom and sanitary equipment; Lighting design; Outdoor furniture; Babies and children accessories; Personal care & wellness; Homecare devices; Wearables; Lifestyle accessories; Consumer electronics; Packaging; Materials and surfaces; Any other category relating to products for the home, under the theme ‘smart home’.

2.4 If necessary, DesignWanted reserves itself the right to change/reorganize the listed categories

  1. ELIGIBILITY

3.1 Product Design submissions – To be eligible for entry to DesignWanted Award 2022, product design projects: must have been completed after the 1st September 2020; upon request, the participant may be asked to provide DesignWanted with an appropriate proof. While, for prototypes: must be fully functional; should be complete with high quality finishes.

Please note:

  • If the product is part of a collection or product group, please choose the product that best represents the collection or group. It’s not possible to submit more than one product from the same collection, using the same application, unless it’s presented separately (paying a separate entry fee)
  • Each participant is allowed to candidate up to 5 products
  • Maximum dimensions allowed: 80 cm (height) x 150 cm (length) x 80 cm (depth)

3.2 Concept Design submissions – To be eligible for entry to DesignWanted Award 2022, concept design projects: must represent innovation accurately; should include high quality 3D files.

3.3 All entries must be submitted by or on behalf of the designer, startup or company chiefly responsible for the project and named as such in press and publicity material. Entries submitted on behalf of a designer, startup or company must be done so with their permission. Joint entries are allowed if the project was designed by more than one designer or company.

3.4 If the same project is entered by more than one designer, startup or company, we reserve the right to disqualify all entries. DesignWanted Srl reserves the right to disqualify an entry if it becomes apparent that a submission is inaccurate or if DesignWanted or the jury have any uncertainty about the integrity of the entry.

3.5 Entries must be submitted via the online award entry form that can be found on our website at award.designwanted.com. All written work submitted must be in English. If you submit a project in another language, DesignWanted Srl reserves the right to disqualify it. Project costs must be converted from local currencies and stated as EUR (€).

3.6 Projects must only be submitted once. If two parties have collaborated on a project together, it is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that the project is only submitted by one of the collaborating parties. The designated entrant will be responsible for all stages of the entry.

3.7 Participation in the competition itself is subject to a binding online registration and a subscription fee. 

  1. REQUIREMENTS

4.1 Entries must be submitted before 23:59 Italian time on the night of 31 January 2023. No entries will be accepted after this time.

4.2 All entries must be submitted digitally via the entry form on the DesignWanted Award website at award.designwanted.com. No other method of submitting entries will be accepted.

4.3 Applicants are allowed to enter up to 3 projects. Applicants can see their submission via the account created on the award website. 

4.4 Once submitted, Applicants won’t be allowed to make changes to their entry. Exceptionally, they can contact the DesignWanted Award team to change photos, pdfs or links. No other changes are admitted to not vary the original project which has been considered eligible in the Application phase.

  1. IMAGES

5.1 Entries will be judged solely on the material submitted. Photographs must be unadulterated and genuine, although minor retouching is permitted. Computer-generated images are accepted for the concept design application. DesignWanted Srl shall be under no obligation to request alternative or replacement images.

5.2 Applicants represent and warrant that all materials submitted will not infringe or constitute a misappropriation of any right of any third party, including any copyrights, mask work rights, patent rights, trademark rights, trade secret rights or confidentiality rights and agree to indemnify DesignWanted Srl and its employees against any liabilities, damages, losses, costs or expenses arising as a result thereof.

  1. ENTRY FEES

6.1 The application to the DesignWanted Award is free for all participants. If the project is considered eligible, then it will pass to the second selection phase in which the designer, startup or company will only be able to participate upon payment.

6.2 The entry fees are dependent on date of entry, as set out on the DesignWanted Award website. Any entrant deemed to have acted dishonestly when registering their entry will be contacted and may result in disqualification. Upon registration, entrants should ensure they enter the correct information.

6.3 The registration fee for the competition is: Super Early Bird: 120€ | until October 17th; Early Bird: 170€ | until October 31st; Regular submission: 250€ | until January 31st. *VAT will be applied to Italian residents.

6.4 Payment must be made through the online payment system on the DesignWanted Award website. Entrants will receive confirmation that their participation request has been successfully received via email once payment has been made. No other payment method will be accepted except at the discretion of DesignWanted Award.

6.5 The participation is confirmed and completed upon payment of the registration fee (if the free application is confirmed, then we will send you a payment link). 

6.6 The participation in the DesignWanted Award begins when the participant completes the submission form on award.designwanted.com.com.

6.7 Entries to the competition will only be judged by the jury after the entry fee has been received. In any case, the participation fees cannot be refunded. 

  1. JURORS

7.1 DesignWanted Award will appoint an international jury of leading figures from the world of architecture & design. 

7.2 Names, biographies and portraits of jury members will be made public on the DesignWanted Award website. 

7.3 DesignWanted Award will organise, select and manage the jury, which will be instructed to act without bias or favour. The jury’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding their decisions or decision-making processes.

  1. JUDGING PROCESS

8.1 Judging process will take place in three stages. 

8.2 The judging criteria are: Usability; Aesthetics; Originality; Innovation; Market Potential; Environmental responsibility; Social responsibility; Communication; Viability (in case of concept design). This list does not imply any ranking order for assessment by the jury.

8.3 The first stage, called “eligibility”, will see all project entries reviewed by the DesignWanted editorial team, who will evaluate the consistency with the theme of the call.

8.4 The second stage, called “shortlisting”, will involve the DesignWanted editorial team, assisted by a team of architecture and design experts, who will select a shortlist of 30 projects in the product design category and 10 projects in the concept design category.

8.5 The third stage, called “winners”, will involve the master jury, who will convene and ratify the suggested project category winners.

  1. ANNOUNCEMENT OF SHORTLISTED AND WINNERS

9.1 Shortlisted entries will be published on award.designwanted.com. Entrants whose entries were not shortlisted will not receive any correspondence from DesignWanted.

9.2 DesignWanted Award 2023 winners will be announced on award.designwanted.com.

9.3 DesignWanted Award may attempt to respond, answer and reply to any requests, queries or questions communicated by an applicant at any time. However, DesignWanted Award is not required or obligated to provide such a response, answer or reply.

9.4 If an entry receives an award, the manner and details of announcing such nomination and award is strictly at the discretion of DesignWanted Srl. The applicant understands that all awards may not be given or publicized in the same manner and some might be presented in a ceremony whilst others are not.

  1. MENTIONS AND PRIZES 

10.1 Shortlisted projects and winners will be entitled to the prize as described on award.designwanted.com/award

10.2 In order to ensure the physical exposure during the Milan Design Week, the product / prototype category winners must send their products to the physical address that will be communicated by DesignWanted when the winners are announced.

Important: The logistic costs, and any administrative and bureaucratic aspect, for shipping the products (to/from Milan) are borne by the winners, as well as any travel expenses in case they want to personally participate in the event in Milan.

10.3 The winners’ prize guarantees the free exhibition space and the supporting communication, as identified above. Any other unexplained items are not included.

10.4 As regards the concept category, the winners must provide DesignWanted Award with high quality 3D files so that DWA can create virtual exhibitions of the same. File specifications will be communicated upon announcement of the winners. Likewise, any travel expenses, in case of interest to personally participate in the event in Milan, are borne by the winners.

  1. TIMING AND COMMUNICATION 

11.1 Call for entries for the DesignWanted Award 2022 / 2023 starts on 10/10/2022. 

11.2 Applications must be received no later than January 31st, 2023. 

11.3 Both the shortlisted projects and the winners will be announced in between February and March 2023.  

11.4 If necessary, DesignWanted reserves the right to hasten or delay the dates. 

11.5 At an early stage – when the call for entries is still open – we don’t support brands in their communication activities.

  1. PRIVACY

12.1 No financial information such as debit or credit card details will be stored by DesignWanted Srl in any format.

12.2 Information provided by entrants will not be shared with any third party. Only DesignWanted Srl employees and appointed judges will have access to this information. Any type of data that identifies a living individual will be treated as personal data and will be dealt with in accordance with DesignWanted Srl’s privacy policy.

12.3 Entrants therefore represent and warrant that they are only submitting entry materials which they own, or otherwise have the right to submit and agree to indemnify DesignWanted Srl and its employees against any liabilities, damages, losses, costs or expenses arising as a result of their failure to obtain such right.

  1. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

13.1 Products which breach intellectual property rights (trademarks, logos or brand labels, utility models, patents or similar) are barred from participation. 

13.2 All participants will be responsible for informing DesignWanted whether legal proceedings (involving competition law, patents, trademarks, disputes about copyright or other rights) are pending with regard to submitted items. 

13.3 The participant shall be solely liable for damages, and particularly claims by third parties, resulting from an infringement of these conditions. 

13.4 The copyright of contributions submitted to the contest (e.g. photographs, videos and texts) remains with the respective participant at all times. 

13.5 The participant grants the right of use and the right of publication to DesignWanted. The participant is not entitled to claim a compensation fee for usage. By registering, the participant consents to this usage. 

  1. LIABILITY

14.1 DesignWanted Srl reserves the right to cancel or amend DesignWanted Award and these terms and conditions at any time. 

14.2 DesignWanted Award will not be liable to applicants for any consequential losses (i.e. loss of revenue, loss of business, loss of goodwill, loss or damage to data or information) arising out of, or in connection with, the provision of the service of publishing your entry on the DesignWanted Award website. 

14.3 DesignWanted Award may assert its rights or obligations under these terms at any time. You may not assert your rights or obligations under these terms without DesignWanted Srl’s prior written consent. DesignWanted Srl will not be liable for failure to meet its obligations under these terms if it is prevented from doing so due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control.

  1. DATA STORAGE

15.1 By uploading your project to award.designwanted.com you agree that we will store the entry materials (including your company name) on our database. Your data will be only accessed by DesignWanted Srl employees and collaborators as well as the appointed judges. 

15.2 When you create an account with DesignWanted Srl, we collect such data including, but not limited to, your first and last name, email address, telephone number, address, occupation, and any other data included in a submitted entry, including but not limited to entry materials. 

15.3 Any type of data that identifies a living individual will be treated as personal data and will be dealt with in accordance with DesignWanted Srl’s privacy policy.

  1. CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT, PLACE OF JURISDICTION 

16.1 By filling out the registration form, participants accept the rules of the competition as set out in the documents dispatched with the call for submissions and in the terms and conditions herein contained, and they further agree to take part in the exhibition. 

16.2 The place of fulfillment and place of jurisdiction for the contract shall be Milan (Italy).
